Ryan Dudenbostel, Musical Director
What really happens after 'happily ever after'...
Once upon a time, Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim created a Tony Award-winning musical classic, a seamless fusion of fairytales that spoke to the child’s heart within us all. It told the enchanted story of a baker and his wife as they journeyed into the woods in search of a cow, a red cape, a pair of golden slippers, and some magic beans – all necessary to lift the curse that kept them childless. Along the way, they met up with a beguiling cast of characters that left audiences laughing out loud, fighting back tears and, ultimately, transformed by the whole experience.
A musical of Broadway proportions, Into the Woods heralds a milestone for the Mount Baker Theatre — our first Main Stage self-produced, professional production. The musical features sumptuous costumes, a dazzling 23-piece professional orchestra, and awe-inspiring sets. The production is directed by award-winning WWU professor Mark Kuntz, who for years has been the creative energy behind the popular Summer and Winter Repertory Series in the Walton Theatre. The lead actors are world-class performers who are staples on Seattle’s Paramount and 5th Avenue Theatre stages, while the remaining cast consists of local professional actors with a few Bellingham celebrities sprinkled in.
